Best of Beauty - 2020

Happy 2021!

This past year I have been working at organizing my vanity unit and all the beauty items that sit atop it. To keep it short I will be sharing with you my favourite bits and pieces this is not ALL of faves, if that was the case we’d be here all day. Instead I have decided to add a couple of feature posts including an AM/PM, Dermalogica Routine and BeautyCounter faves…all coming up in the near future.

Favourite Skincare Pieces:

  • Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse. Only introduced to this product at the end of 2019, it became a game-changer and a fast favourite. It takes off the majority of my makeup in one swoop.

  • Pixi Saylislic. With Masks being the biggest trend of 2020, I found my skin being irritated by the elastic that cuts across my face day in- day out. While I haven’t had any major breakouts (knock on wood), this Pixi Saylislic acid nips the beast in the butt!

  • BeautyCounter Vitamin C. I love a good Vitamin C serum, much of 2019 I used Dermalogica’s Bio-lum C Serum and I loved it. It was only when it became empty I thought I would switch it up. At this point BeautyCounter launched their Vit C serum so I thought I would give it a go and I wasn’t disappointed. So now I ping-pong between the two. One of the only reasons I would lean towards BeautyCounter vs. Dermalogica is for 30ml BeautyCounter retails for $106 rather than $123.

  • R+F exfoliator. I get terribly dry skin over the winter. At the beginning of the year my friend gifted me the Rodan + Fields Exfoliator and I used it at least weekly to help reduce flakiness and dry skin.

  • Dermalogica Micro Foliant. As for my face I love using the Microfoliant, it’s gentle enough to use daily and again keep my skin nice and smooth while removing all the gross gunk from the day.

  • Origins Hydra mask. After I have exfoliated it’s key to lock in moisture, while I typically use any facial cream in desperate moments I rely on the Origins Intensive Mask, it does the trick and smells delicious.

  • Beautycounter Brightening Oil. This is a new favourite for me, only entering the vanity in December. I switch between this one and the Dermalogica Bio-lum C serum. However I use this one more often in the evening.

Lips:

No one likes peely lips. So I have a team of lip products I rely on frequently. This includes the Blistex lip Care (the blue tub) and Rodan + Fields Lip Treatment, put this on in the evening and let it repair all that has dried up like the desert. As for lip gloss and sticks, I haven’t been using much as I have been hiding under my mask but I do like Patrick Ta’s Monochrome Moment - Silky Lip Crème.

Face:

As for my face I used Origins tinted moisturizer over the summer which I liked however it doesn’t have an SPF so I needed to add that into my routine which often was Dermalogica, again. As for the fall I began using BeautyCounter’s Skin Twin in the shade 310, once I finished that I used Benefit’s Hello Happy Foundation, and I have decided I will be going back to BC’s. Nothing has changed on the concealer front, I still love my Lasting Perfection from the UK…not sure what I’ll begin to use once I run, let’s hope the world opens up again!

For bronzer, blush and highlight I have been using Tarte’s pro-glow palette for bronzer, while I like it once I have used it up I will either try Beautycounter’s bronzer or return to Chocolate Soleil from Too Faced. For blush, it’s a constant rotating door…currently using ELF, same with highlight aside from Becca’s Moonstone I really haven’t landed on a new highlight I absolutley love. If you have any suggestions feel free to comment suggestions below!

Eyes:

My go-to mascara for the past few years has been Better than Sex by Too Faced however I think it has been knocked off it’s pedestal by Pat Mcgrath FetishEyes Mascara, I bought it as apart of my annual Sephora stock up and I have been using it daily, another mascara I am keen on is Charlotte Tilbury’s Full Fat Lashes. As for palette’s I have been very well behaved and I only purchased one this year and I love it, it’s super shocking… It’s from Colourpop and it’s called…Bare Necessities, yup more neutrals.

I know you’re shook.

Tools: I was never big one beauty tools but I did get a rose quartz roller, new brushes and blending sponge this year…all necessary.

Hopefully that wasn’t too painful! Here’s to New Year, New Make Up x.
